Review
This game actually looked quite good and has awesome artistic design to it. Journey prevails yet again as the highest rated downloadable game this year.
Edit: Didn't know there was already a thread on it. Lock please

A shame, I wanted and had high hopes for this game... :(

It's not okay for either...but at least one of the games has been critically acclaimed and the other is apparently shallow and incredibly basic based on the reviews. I don't know why Journey (92/100 metacritic) was brought up, but that's my take.
I'm not a fan of this $15 business for either game, but with a 69/100 metacritic average for Deadlight from this developer, this 6.5 score isn't too surprising. I may pick Deadlight up for $1-$5 next year on sale or whatever.
Deadlight was made by Tequila Works and this is their first game, so I don't know why gamers always expect new developers to be amazing on their first outing. Plus, it seems they were aping Limbo, but just missing the original games beats. It would be great if devs could start out great day one like Rocksteady, but the bar is high. Journey on the other hand was crafted by a more veteran developer, and it took them three tries to get a metascore that high (thatgamecompany who started with a 71/100 Flow, then did 87/100 Flower, and finally landing at 92/100 with Journey). Perhaps Tequila will perform in a similar fashion on the sophomore outing.
I will also pick up Journey someday, but for sub $10, as again I'm not feeling this $15 for short games...plus I have a great backlog of AAA-AA retail games I've still yet to play.

Journey is actually 90 minutes and literally has zero gameplay. I literally held forward on the analog and press X a couple times and then I was done.
Considering the previous games Flow and Flower I'm a bit surprised that you expected something else from thatgamecompany. :P That's what they craft, short, easy, tranquil games.
I didn't buy Journey for $15 for that very reason, but one day I will own it for sub $10.

Ironically, I really liked Flower (fl0w was okay, but look more like a screensaver). Each level was different and controlling the petals actually took some getting used to.

It seems even worse than that. I read in a couple of reviews that the game clocks in under 2 hours.
I don't even care about the score, but I can't justify spending $15 for a game that takes such a short time to complete.
Shame, I was really looking forward to it.
[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]Hasn't been a great start for summer of arcade. :[mems_1224yea, seems like they shot their load too early this year with trials, fez and minecraft releasing so early.Well, I'm glad they released Minecraft earlier. :P
Unfortunately Lems will never experience the greatness that is Journey, they have to settle with mediocre exclusives and arcade titles

its a shame 360 owners have to "settle" for games like this instead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWExFQoT2B8&feature=g-user-u[QUOTE="xhawk27"]

So you got one good game. XBLA still has more games that are rated higher than those on PSN.
A harsh review in my opinion. Still, I never go on review scores, and Deadlight looks fantastic, so I'll be getting it for sure.

Maybe it is a harsh review, I haven't played it yet, but Metacritic has Deadlight at 69/100 which falls in line with GS's review of 6.5/10.
There have been plenty of cases where most of us didn't agree with websites or Gamespot.com especially, perhaps this is one of those times...or not. I'm not spending $15 on this now though. I was going to wait for it at $10 as I was amped for Deadlight based on the Atmosphere. A shame as reviews are saying that's the only good thing about it, unlike say Limbo which got 90/100 at Metacritic and had the gameplay to back up the atmosphere.
Hell, I waited on Journey (92/100 @Meta) and that was getting amazing scores. That darn $15, I know a deals coming if I wait. I will get both when they are cheaper though. Journey first of course.
Be warned, like Limbo 90/100 and Journey 92/100, Deadlight 69/100 is a short game. Unfortunately the Newbie first time developers Tequila Works said Deadlight was going to be an AAA game and at least six hours, so perhaps Tequila ran out of development time as the game is getting clocked in much shorter than that by reviewers clocks.
Big shame. I really don't know whether to get it or not. The art-style is nothing short of enchanting and I don't mind the short length (I Am Alive was around the same, the same price, and still great), but I can't say I'm a fan of the repetition it apparently offers. Plus I want this crowd Tequila to do well, they have amazing vision as far as I can tell, just need to work on the execution a little.
I'll try the trial after work anyway.
Was there any hype on this game?[QUOTE="Nike_Air"]

thom_maytees
Its been on LoosingENDS infamous list for months now, just as Steel Battalion Heavy Armor was. Its just fun to point out all the flops that he hypes up. Next up is Dust: An Elysian Tale or something like that.
the metacritic is at 69, I love when people say a review is harsh when they haven't even played the gameBit harsh if you ask me. Then again this is GS.
Stringerboy
Finished the first act.
The review does sound a bit harsh now.freedomfreak
Reviews plural. Metascore 69/100. As in, "The multiple Reviews sound a bit harsh now."
I would hold off on reviewing those "harsh" reviews until you complete Deadlight, as I read the best part is the first two acts of the game...then apparently Deadlight stagnates and ends. The game has great atmosphere, that was never in question.
Maybe you'll love it though, you were excited and determined to enjoy this game reading your earlier posts. I know despite the poor early metascore performance IGN liked Deadlight andgave the game an 8.5.
Ouch lems get no games and then when a mircale happens and a game comes out it flops.
Harsh times lems.
